The Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for Social Security benefits increase for 2014 is a mere 1.5 percent, the seventh time that a COLA has ever been less than 2 percent since the increases began in 1950. Recipients of Social Security retirement benefits and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will see a minor increase in their monthly checks starting on December 31, 2013.
