The Social Security Administration is expected to soon announce that there will be no cost of living increase in 2011. This means that the monthly amount of Social Security checks will remain unchanged for the second straight year. The amount of any cost of living increase is based on the Consumer Price Index, which measures inflation. As consumer prices have not risen above the 2008 level, the result is no cost of living increase for Social Security recipients.
