How Long It Takes to Receive a Social Security Determination

Once you have applied for Social Security disability benefits, in most cases, Social Security will make their determination within four months. If you have been denied and ask for a reconsideration, this process takes about four months as well.

If you file an appeal and request a hearing before an Administrative Law Judge (“ALJ”), it will take about nine months to a year to get a hearing. If the ALJ denies your claim, an appeal before the Appeals Council can take about a year, and in some cases longer, before you will get a decision.

If you have applied for Social Security and have been denied, have questions, or need help with an Appeal, contact the Pennsylvania social security attorneys at Calhoon and Kaminsky P.C., at 877-291-9675 for a free consultation.
