A fireworks display by Schaefer Pyrotechnics of Ronks, Lancaster County misfired at 10:30 p.m. on July 4 at a school on West Cherry Street in Palmyra. The fireworks display was for the borough’s 250th anniversary celebration. The misfire caused material to spray onlookers in the crowd.
Eleven people were injured by the fireworks mishap, including four children, six adults, and an employee of the fireworks company. The injuries sustained included burns, scrapes, and bruises. Those injured by the fireworks material were treated at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. The State Police Fire Marshall interviewed witnesses and employees of the fireworks company about the accident.
