The application for Social Security Benefits requires personal and medical information, along with a signed medical authorization to obtain medical records, and possibly submission to a physical examination paid for by Social Security.  The process takes 3 or 4 months, depending on the current case load of the Social Security Administration and whether any additional information is needed to review your claim.  It is best to apply as soon as possible.
