On September 14, 2011, an employee who was injured at SKF USA in Hanover, York County, PA, died from his work injuries. The worker was hospitalized at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center due to an explosion of hot salt solution on September 1, 2011.

Medical Fee Review Hearings

Effective immediately, a medical provider who disputed the payment of their medical bill via the Fee Review procedure with the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, should use the Request for Hearing to Contest Fee Review Determination (http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=982114&mode=2) form to appeal an adverse Fee Review Determination.  The Request should also include a proof of service, as specified by 34 Pa.Code Section 127.257(c).  The appeal will be heard by 1 of 7 Workers’ Compensation Judges, who have been specially appointed to be fee review hearing officers.  The Bureau will assign a Request for Hearing to one of these judges, and the parties will be informed by a Notice of Assignment.  The judge will then schedule a hearing.

SKF USA, Inc. Workers Injured by Explosion

On September 1, 2011, a steam explosion at SKF USA, Inc, Hanover, York County, PA, injured three workers, an employee and two technicians from a furnace manufacturer, Aichelin Heat Treatment Systems Ltd.   The accident was caused by an explosion of hot salt solution in the plant’s heat treatment area.  The injured workers were flown to the Burn Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment.

Steel Worker Burned From Falling Into Vat

On August 31, 2011, a steel worker for Edgar Thomson in Braddock, Allegheny County, PA, suffered burns to the back when he fell into a vat.  The injured worker is being treated at UPMC Mercy Hospital.
